Over the last few months, Not Blowing Smoke has spearheaded the fight against the local flavor bans in the San Francisco Bay Area along with a wider coalition of consumer, industry and small business partners. We have continued working closely with our colleagues and are excited to jointly unveil the beginning of a new campaign. Following San Francisco’s unprecedented and unanimous approval of a total ban on flavored vapor products, an unprecedented response is required. Let’s Be Real, San Francisco – Coalition to Qualify Referendum on Flavored Tobacco Sales Ban

In the wake of the city’s passage of an ordinance that would ban the sale of most vaping products and e-cigarettes, menthol cigarettes, and other tobacco products, a group of concerned residents, including small business leaders, retailers, adult consumers, and free choice advocates have announced the formation of Let’s Be Real, San Francisco, a coalition that supports San Francisco’s long-standing spirit of not restricting choices or telling responsible adults what they can and cannot do. The coalition also announced it is launching an effort to gather signatures from San Francisco voters to force the Board of Supervisors to place a referendum on the ballot, giving the voters final say on whether they want this ordinance that bans adult choice to take effect.

New Push In Oakland To Ban Flavored Tobacco Products

Candy and fruit-flavored cigarettes are already banned on a federal level, but currently there is no ban or regulation on the kinds of flavors tobacco companies can infuse into cigars, smokeless tobacco and vape oil. Stefan Didak is founder of the non-profit vaping advocacy group Not Blowing Smoke. “We had tax increase and now they are trying to ban flavors,” said Didak. “If you take the flavors out, there is no incentive to keep vaping, and it would basically condemn people to go back to smoking.”
